Kai joined Delta Partners in 2009 and became Chairman of the firm soon after.  His professional career over a span of three decades has been exclusively in the telecoms, media and digital (TMD) industry where he has extensive experience as a senior executive, entrepreneur and private-equity investor.

Prior to joining Delta Partners, Kai served as CEO of Deutsche Telekom where he played an instrumental role in restructuring the company and returning it to a sound footing, including overseeing the biggest deleveraging programme in German corporate history. Kai previously served as CEO of T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom’s global mobile telephony business, where he developed the company into the number 3 mobile operator globally. He began his career at Deutsche Telekom in 1998 as CEO of T-Mobile Germany, and also served as CEO of T-Mobile UK. He was also the co-founder and CEO of Talkline, one of the earliest European airtime reselling businesses.

Kai’s experience as a professional investor in the TMD sector includes working as a senior industry advisor and co-investor with private equity firms like BC Partners, Apollo, Warburg Pincus, EQT and Columbia Capital. Through these activities, Kai has developed a strong track record of significant value creation in the deals he helped lead, generating significant returns for the investors. 

Kai is still an active board member at various companies including Zalando, United Internet and euNetworks. He has also held board positions at Saudi Oger Telecom and Generali Insurance. His various board experience has provided additional perspectives that has proven invaluable to our Board.

Kai graduated from the European Business School in Oestrich and in Paris, and spent a semester at the Thunderbird Global School of Management in Phoenix, AZ, USA. He is fluent in English and German and is conversational in French and Spanish.
