7 questions for 7 consultants: Megan Hudson

Given the uncertainty generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, including potential adjustments to the way the industry is going to operate, we wanted to find out how our team fared through the COVID-19 situation and how they see the world evolving in the coming months. We’ve asked 7 questions to 7 of our consultants from all around the globe. In this first issue we interview Megan Hudson who is a Senior Business Analyst in our Johannesburg office.


 

What has your experience been like during the COVID-19 outbreak?
I was very lucky to be able to spend this time with my family. Having that strong support system really helped in the more difficult moments. The adjustment to WFH was fairly seamless and I have enjoyed having a few more minutes in the morning that I would normally spend traveling to work!

How do you think Delta Partners has handled the situation? What would you highlight?
I think that Delta Partners has handled the situation well. I have particularly enjoyed the weekly “All Hands” calls, which have been a great way to keep the company connected and informed. We have also had more informal, social virtual gatherings, which have been a great way to maintain office culture.

What are you most looking forward to when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted?
In my personal capacity I am looking forward to traveling to visit family and friends in other countries and other parts of South Africa! From a Delta/ work perspective, I am looking forward to seeing my colleagues again and celebrating birthdays in the office.


Are there any skills you have learnt or habits you have developed during the pandemic that will benefit you in the post-COVID-19 work environment?
Prioritisation of sleep and practicing gratitude and meditation have all been characteristic of this time for me! I hope to continue to do these things as we move into the new normal as I have found that they have been beneficial for many things, including my productivity and motivation.

How much of a change do you expect in the way mgmt. consultants operate in the post-COVID-19 world? If you expect there will be change, in what way(s)?
Management consultants typically spend a lot of time at the client site. I think it will be interesting to see how that changes as consulting companies and client organisations return from working from home. Perhaps there will be more remote working.

What kind of priorities do you think will be important for telecom, media and/ or tech players in this post-COVID-19 context?
I think one of the impacts of the pandemic has been its role in cementing the importance of digitalisation and many companies are likely to take action to reduce dependence on physical channels and processes (if they haven’t already). TMT players will play a role in the transition and mid- to long-term success of this shift and will need to prioritise products, services and capabilities to support their enterprise customers on this journey.

Any advice or recommendation you would give to new Delta Partners joiners, in this new context?
Welcome to the family new joiners! The TMT industry is very dynamic and exciting and Delta Partners is a fantastic place to be to learn about, immerse yourself in and even shape the evolution of TMT. I would encourage new joiners to get involved in the social events and to take advantage of our open door way of working to learn from colleagues who all have knowledge, advice and experiences to share. We may be physically separated but there are still lots of opportunities to connect.
