Delta Partners Group, a global Telecoms, Media and Tech (TMT) advisory and investment boutique, has appointed Jose del Valle as a Partner to lead and build out its new global Media, Sports and Entertainment Practice.

Mr del Valle has more than 18 years’ experience in telecoms and media and joins Delta Partners from Telefónica where he was CEO of Telefónica Media for Latin America.

During his time with Telefónica, Mr del Valle was responsible for the company’s Digital Home business, Media Partnerships and US content as well as its Multimedia business in Terra Lycos.

The Media, Sports and Entertainment practice is the fifth specialised vertical unit established by Delta Partners and is part of its wider strategy to continue generating differentiated insights and unique propositions that define the future of the TMT industry. This development strengthens the company’s positioning in the media vertical.

The practice will focus a roster of advisory services as such media strategies for telcos and fan engagement and monetisation for sports franchises. It will also provide investment banking services with a focus on rights deals and broader M&A in the space.

“We’re delighted that Jose joins Delta Partners to lead our global Media, Sports and Entertainment practice. Jose has the skills, perspective and industry experience to help guide our growing roster of sports and media clients through the increasingly complex world of content rights and digital disruption of media companies,” said Victor Font, CEO and co-founder of Delta Partners.

“This will be the fifth pillar of our specialised practice business and will deepen our expertise in media. To date, around 90% of our advisory business is generated by our practices and we believe that we will be a trusted partner for companies at the confluence of sports and media,” Mr Font added.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr del Valle said: “The creation of a Media, Sports and Entertainment practice presents a great opportunity to assist clients in this increasingly competitive field. The timing is tight given the challenges and opportunities that both media companies and sports franchises face, and Delta Partners’ platform has great potential and huge resources to tap into it.”

Delta Partners has aggressively grown its leadership team in the past year with notable industry executives joining the firm such as Roy Chestnutt, who was Chief Strategy Officer at Verizon, and veteran Asia-based investment bankers Sachin Gupta and Saikat Mukherjee. The company also signed an exclusive partnership with Washington-based advisory firm, Quadra Partners.
