South Africa is a leading fighter against the poaching of Rhino’s across the world. Rhino Day is a worldwide initiative used to raise awareness of the poaching of these endangered animals and highlight the seriousness of the situation. The Rhino Day Walk in Madikwe Game Reserve was initiated by ecologists in the region. The initiative was fuelled by a need to raise the necessary funds to start a rhino monitoring programme and support their counter poaching unit. These initiatives have helped protect the Black and White Rhino against extinction.
A few individuals from Delta Partners took part in Rhino Day and the activities in North-West province in South Africa. Madikwe Park hosted their Rhino Day initiative with all the lodges around hosting fundraising activities. We utilised some of the money we raised during the year through various fund raising events within the company to donate to the Rhino Day initiative at Madikwe.
We took part in a 6km walk which was used as an educational tour showing the impact of Rhino Poaching over the last 10 years and the harrowing stories that have occurred. In addition, the Anti-Rhino poaching units of South Africa demonstrated how far they have come in defense of these endangered animals thanks to the help of donations from individuals and companies. This was a great experience to see the love for these animals and the passion of individuals wanting to protect the Rhino’s and other wildlife species within our country and continent.
