LATEST WHITEPAPER: WILL LTE KILL DSL
With the launch of WiMAX many hoped that a new era of fixed connectivity had arrived. Yet, due to a combination of factors, this promise never truly materialized and WiMAX ended up with less than 20 million connections worldwide.
LTE is different: given the fact that it is the natural evolution of the 3GPP family of technologies, operators have made an effort to use lower frequency bands, and, thanks to the endorsement of 195 telecom players worldwide, there are already 467 types of LTE enabled devices available in the market. Additionally, LTE provides speeds that can be more than twice that of WiMAX and lower latency, making it more competitive against DSL. In a short period of time it has achieved more connections than WiMAX (more than 40 million) and is expected to reach 310 million by 2015.
